598ci HD SI recording problems
« on: May 05, 2013, 02:10:31 PM »
Hi everyone,
I'm using sonar as the title for mapping the lakes bottom. Often sonar stops recording without any sign. Also some of records (about 30%) from sonar can't be viewed in Hummviewer or exported to DrDepth. I'm using 32gb SanDisk micro SD card with adapter. Somtimes sonar also can't see the images and records from card so I have to reload unit. Others, older cards doesn't work with unit at all. Is there any available softwarer for unit that fix this problem?
Regards
Christopher

Welcome to the Side imaging Forums web site Christopher (first time poster)!

I am not aware of any software issue that would cause the 598 units to stop recording sonar.  Can you make sure that the unit has an uninterrupted power source and that the unit is receiving the power (not just voltage) that it needs?  Any loose or dirty connections will rob the unit of the power that it needs to operate correctly.  Be sure and check the fuse and fuse holder too.

Many thanks for advice. I bought today new fuse with sealed nest. Is cable diameter can cause this problem? Tomorrow I'm going to install cables with the same diameter as original from unit and weld all connections. Everything else works great  :) working with this unit it's a new way of fishing. Now I know exactly what is down below the boat. How long
saves can I create with automatic quality of recording? Is it possible to use si records to create
 maps w drd?

I have 597ci HD DI unit and the same problem as above. I have tried some low capacity cards, mostly 2gb non-sdhc, even Sandisk EXTREME III 16GB SDHC, none of them was working, always had an error of recording a log or making waypoints. At the end one card worked - Kingston 4GB SDHC but another problem occours as the ping speed was VERY low, apart from what i have set. It looks like ping speed while recording was about 1-2 when in the settings i have set 5-10, auto mode does the same thing.

PYTOON,
If you are having to lengthen the power wires by more than a few feet you should use a heavier gauge wire to do so.  Otherwise there may be a current restriction for the unit.

Recording length would depend on the memory card capacity.

I do not use Dr. Depth (I assume that is what “drd” is), so cannot answer your question.

marviz,
So you are saying that the recording problem was caused by the memory card being used?  Normally we don’t hear of problems when using the SanDisk brand of memory cards.

Has anyone else with a 500 series unit made any sonar recordings?

I have a new 598 and I have used a Sandisk Ultra SDHC 16 GB with success. The sonar data records fine but I have occasional problems with the GPS data not being recorded correctly.

I also tested a 4 gig micro SD card and that seemed to work fine too. I dont recall the specs on the micro card though.

All connections has been checked. I put recording on sonar simulation for over 15 and everything works ok. Now it's time for field test. I'm sending also pictures showing my work. Unit is a portable version.

I'm after field test. Sonar works well, without any interrupt. After few days on the water I'll write more about this unit.
