Title: Transducer for my 987c SI
Post by: Foster78 on December 04, 2010, 11:14:01 PM
I just bought a 987c SI head unit and was wondering what would be the best transducer to use? I have read that I can use the one for the 997 SI which is cheaper but I was wanting some advise. Thanks

Hi Foster and welcome to the forum.

You have to get the 262 / 455 kHz transducer for your unit to have the full performance of your 987. I doubt that the 997 transducer will work with the 987 and even if it would you would have only the 455 kHz frequency. The 997 transducer uses 455 and 800 kHz.

I recommend this guy here:

I bought a spare transducer this year in spring and Poor Fish got the stuff sent to Germany within 2 weeks. I guess you will have a hard time to find the transducer cheaper. If you do, let us know   ;).

Best wishes from Germany / Harry

Harry is right: using the newer HDSi transducer of the 997 (and other newer Si units) with your 987 will only allow partial usage of the unit and the that transducer.  Since the only common frequencies this unit and transducer have are the 455kHz Si sonar and 200kHz “2D” sonar frequencies; these will be the only that work with that combination of unit and transducer.  If you were to purchase the original XHS-9-Si-160-T transducer that was made for the 987 unit than you would be able to use the 455kHz and 262kHz Si sonar frequencies as well as the 200kHz and 50kHz 2D sonar frequencies.

[Edit was to correct the Si frequencies available when using the XHS-9-Si-160-T transducer with the 987c Si unit.]

Thanks guys for the info. I found the 987c transducer for $146 shipped at xtremenavigation.com
