Losing 2d sonar at High speed
« on: May 18, 2017, 10:58:02 PM »
I have an 1199 linked with a helix 9.  when running at high speed I sometimes lose my 2d sonar and it defaults to read at 1.9 ft. It does not happen all the time and when it does it starts working again after a short period of time.  I do have my transducr glassed into the hull of my ranger boat. It is connected to my 1199 unit and linked into the helix.

Any ideas

If the unit depth readings are normal at all times except on plane = it's an indication that air is getting under the hull when the boat rises up out of the water on plane  ...

An xducer epoxied into the bilge must be in a spot of the hull that has "constant contact" with the water when the boat is up on pad  ...(Many don't realize how little of the hull is actually in the water on pad)  ...

Even a wave can create air between the hull pad and the water surface  ... This air that gets under the xducer (even a micro-second of air between the hull and the water) causes the unit is lose bottom - and then takes a second or 2 to regain bottom contact  ...

Check to make sure the bilge xducer is mounted as far back toward the transom as possible and as close to the boat keel as possible  ... This area of the bilge will give the best chance for the epoxied in xducer to maintain constant contact with the water....

The other option is to use the motor trim to stick more of the hull in the water when the boat is up on pad  ...
