Humminbird to Lowrance transducer connection issue
« on: May 19, 2016, 04:46:11 PM »
I just purchased a Helix 5 sonar to use in dash on my TR196. It had a Lowrance unit that crapped out so I replaced it with the helix as I own a 997 and a 778ci as well.
I found on sonarwars.com an article that said I could use an motorguide 8M4001962 adapter to connect to the Lowrance transducer that is glassed into the hull (PD-WBL) I bought one and connected it but the sonar says transducer not connected. I tried the Humminbird transducer and it works so not a sonar issue.
Did I buy the wrong one or do I need another connector? The new connector connects to the unit and transducer with no problem.
This is a link to the article. http://www.sonarwars.com/convert-low...bird-2d-sonar/.

Thanks in advance

The unit tics the temp sensor upon startup to detect if there is indeed an xducer attached ... If it doesn't detect the temp sensor = the unit gives the "Transducer Not Connected" popup ...

The adapter cable may not be allowing temp data ...

You may have to force the unit into normal operating mode to bypass this startup temp sensor detecting sequence ...

When starting the unit - press the "Menu" button when the HB splash screen appears to get the forced startup options ...

Then choose "Normal Operation" from the popup list ...

Thanks Rickey

I think that did it. Doesn't show "transducer not connected" and you can hear the transducer ticking .
Haven't had time to put it in the water yet but will let you know.

Tried it on the water today. No go. Looks like I'll order a HBird transducer for the hull.
