Shutdown on 998
« on: October 30, 2015, 07:42:00 AM »
My 998 is difficult to shutdown using power switch. When you press and hold switch it often just flashes "hold to shutdown" starts the countdown, then goes back to power screen.  Evidently not good solid contact. Question is does it harm the unit to shut it down by switching off power to unit??

It is definitely better to use the power button ..... That way it does a clean shutdown, kind of like shutting down a pc instead of just pulling the power......A clean shutdown keeps things from getting corrupted.

Any settings that have been save and some of the nav data are also saved when shutting down via the power button.
**Looking for the one that makes it all worthwhile**

This is not the first 998 I've heard of this with ...

Try releasing the power button earlier ...

Had the same problem within a year of having my 998. They said to send it in for repair. They replaced the keypad membrane because they were having problems with their units. Had the same problem within another year of using my 998. Out of warranty by then and they wanted too much to try another repair. Just have to try shutting down multiple times until it does.

I borrowed a 998c with this issue to see if I could find a workaround ...

The most consistent shut down sequence I could replicate was ...:

*Press Power 1 short press (and release) to bring up the power Xpress menu (Sonar On/Off)
*Press Power 1 long press and hold until  "Shutdown countdown" appears
*Continue holding Power thru countdown 2 - 1
*Release Power when "Shutting Down" appears

This sequence worked 7 out of 10 times ...

I sent mine in last year around this time for the same issue. It was also affecting my presets.
