Just instaled Onix and as gps hs

Dual Onix units are wired to accy switch that is powers from a master switch, when unit is on and boat motor is started system reboots, must be loosing enough voltage to shut onix off, i have a fully charged battery and still happens. Thinking I should run a new wire from master directly to battery?

Where is the best place to mount as gps hs on boat, front, center or rear? ( I do have a 360) I have it currently mounted in the very front and when on the water today the onix showed the correct compass course but boat icon was turned side ways, the higher the speed the straighter the icon matched the course. Thanks in advance.

It is always recommended to wire straight to the battery with a blade type fuse at the battery ...and solder any connections ...

Every mid-circuit switch and connection creates more and more voltage drop ... Robbing the unit of ample current flow to effectively power the unit ...

14 gauge is recommended ... 12 is better ... I used 10 ... and separate dedicated 10-2 to each of my bow mounted units ...

I would mount the GPS-HS as close to overhead of the transducer that you will be using to mark and return to waypoints with.

I wired up a 8 ga. wire from the battery and ran it to a marine fuse block under the dash. This fuse block distributed power to all my head units, Ethernet port, etc.... I wouldn't wire sensitive electronics directly to the battery in any case without proper fuses (or surge protection). The ignition is giving you a surge and can't be good for the electronics. Cost of doing this was under $100 for the heavy wires ( power and ground), a few connectors, and the fuse block with some 3 amp fuses (one for each unit).

I was told this was a far safer approach to keeping interference low and protecting your investment. So far, no issues, and a much better signal with more detail and far less noise on the sonar. The boat tests clean with virtually no leakage / interference.
