Dave I'll try and find the link for you...saw one mounted on a bracket on the front of a 4wheeler.  Drop pole with a locking bracket.  Looked like a well build setup and not just some throw together.

slab ,thanks i have seen that post looks intersting but i want to utilize the bow mount  and i'm more interestd in the quality /usefulness on the aquired image on the 360
...not 100% convinced of the  the 1000$  price tag. i currently use my 798.. and find it to be a geat tool with 2d while icefishing  i prefer this to the flasher option as there is a history to look at as well
anyone else  out there try 360 on the ice??

Dave something I've notices when we go on our ice trips to MI...at night we use a light for crappie and the underwater camera is rendered useless once the little life starts dancing out front lol.  I think a setup like that would give poor returns as well with any DI SI or 360 unit, just like open water with alot of sediment.

Given the right conditions I have no doubt it would work.  Ice thickness would come into play later in the season.  See why you would want it though...just hole hop to the schools and follow them around  ;D

I've already responded to Dave's PM on this, but I'll flup here in case there are other considering this. I used my 360 this past season.....sort of. I only used it while fishing one inpoundment. It contains land locked salmon, and they love to travel in schools, so when you see one......things typically really "light up". I found a good spot in about 30' of water. I love gadgets, so I had 2 cameras set up as well as my 1199 w/ 360. When I had schools working through, as confirmed by the down viewing sonar and the 2 cams set at different depths, I really focused on my 360 to see what showed up. I was disappointed with my results. I can easily see when schools of salmon move through my SI, as well as DI. I was expecting to see something similar with the 360. I did NOT see any fish in the water column of the 360, and even though I could see 100s of fish all around me, the fish reflections seemed to always get lost in the bottom reflection! I tried many configurations, but to no avail.

It seemed that ALL youtube videos of the 360 in use, were in 10' or less of water. I was in 30'. I was wondering if because of the depth, and the necessary additional "power" required to "see" further out, resulted in the "camouflaging" of the fish returns with that of the bottom? If you are in 5' of water, and want to look out to say 15' (3x the depth), this would require far less amplitude of the signal than being in 30' of water and wanting to look out 90'. When I was just using my SI, and watching for schools to traverse the SI curtain, I could easily see fish returns in the water column, and to the sides, using sonar shadows to determine the fish's relative depth. I figured that the amplitude of the signal to reach out 90 with SI would be the same as the 360 (a SI rotating), but I have not yet been able to replicate the quality of my SI on my 360.

Regrettably, personal obligations this summer prevented me from using my 360, so I have no new results to post at this time.

MT I'm going to send a PM that may help you, so the others know...this is a link to someone that has had some great results with his 360 and he may be able to give some good advise.

If you do find out anything just post back here.   Weather has set in this way so may be many months till you get a chance to test it again.

I use this handmade accessory, just pull line up and down, and know exactly what is the structure under the ice, where my hooks are and is there fish or not 80 feet around:

Vik33,
As I have said before, your principle is very clever! I'm trying to give it a name, The Vertical 180 System or SpotImaging or Down-At-The-Spot System. Whatever the best name might be, the system principle should definitly be a candidate for a new level of ice-fishing gear.

vik, do u sweep up/down or in a circular motion  with this set up
im interested in utilizing side scan or 360 for ice fishing as well
are u utilizing the si image or down imaging to get your info...
it looks like  the ducer is angled sideways in some pics on your photobucket images ??

i tried rotating si ducer on pole ....didnt seem to get much out of itany suggestions??

Dave that looks to be a Di shot swept front to back or viceversa.  Explains the hump in the image, at least this is the way I'm reading it.  The angle would give a deeper reading at the rear...center would give true depth...and front angle would read deep again.  I'm sure when he checks back in he'll fill us in some more.

I'm surprised that turning the SI ducer didn't give a good shot as long as it was steady.  The guys in the club use SI on the bow and will turn their trolling motor to see what is around them.  They use it alot when spider rigging to find the school of crappie and staying on them.

About a year ago Viktor's method was discussed here: http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=3403.msg31133#msg31133

Maybe the thread gives some clues to how it works.
