Topic: 998c Transducer Kick Up

Hello everyone, I have had my 998c for about 6 months or so, and let me say it is awesome! Even after 6 months I still find myself idling around for hours trying to find new things and fish. The only thing that is bothering me is when I reach speeds of 45mph or higher my SI transducer kicks up because of the pressure. I have a Nitro Z7 and the transducer is mounted on the step hull by the drain plug area about 15" from the center line. All sonar features work great, and i have no interference, so I am happy with the location of the transducer. Are there any ways to tighten the bracket, or prevent the kick up from high speeds? I have read that you need to "bend" the ears in so they are tighter, but I was hoping for a more official/professional way to do it. To be honest I am actually happy at 45mph or less, mainly because I save gas, but in situations like bass tournaments where I would need/want to run at higher speeds, I am afraid to do so because of the transducer kicking up. Also, on a side note, my 998c doesn't display water temperature. I know it can, but from day 1 it hasn't displayed it. I have messed around with SI settings, and sonar settings, but haven't been able to figure that one out.  Any help would be awesome. Thanks guys.

Bending in the ears is the only way to increase the amount of kick-up force that is needed on the HDSi transducer.  That is the professional way to do it (I was getting paid when I have done it in the past, so that makes it “professional” doesn’t it? LOL!).

Go to the Select Readouts menu and see if Temperature is one of the options.  If it is not then the temperature sensor in the unit has failed and the whole transducer would need to be replaced.  Call Humminbird and see if they will send you another transducer to replace it or buy an auxiliary temperature sensor and install it.
