Help Reading Images from 1197 SI
« on: April 12, 2010, 11:09:21 AM »
I just got my 1197 installed and had a day on the lake. I have a couple ingaes and questions regarding how to interpret them. the first is an image of an old bridge. Does the image appear to have the proper transducer setup, i.e. angle of duer?
Secondly, this is a ditch and road bed with what appears to be a tower of bait fish. Could this be Stripers, Crappie or is it shad. These are at Raystwon lake in PA.

To tell if the transducer has the correct running angle on it go by a vertical pole or even a support column for a bridge.  Set the unit to display the Si sonar to the side the pole or column will show in and bring the range in some (2x or 3x the water depth).  If the angle is set right the pole/column will be shown straight out from the centerline.  If it is angled towards the top or bottom of the display than it is not level at that boat speed and you should try to adjust it.

Shad is my guess but than I do not fish that lake but here they can be shown in schools like this plus they look tightly packed.
