Title: Helix 10" g2n shutting off
Post by: wisconsin chad on April 16, 2017, 08:16:25 PM
I have a Helix 10"g2n on my bow and has shut off on me several Times, it also shuts off when I start my engine. I have it hooked up to my master  switch. I have a 27 optima blue top, it runs 2 helix 10" (1-mega and 1-down) at the same time. Does anybody have some sight on this?

It is best not to run thru the master switch because the electronics wiring needs to be pristine and not on the same circuit as other loads.

It is best to either add a dedicated fuse panel for electronics with a 10 or 12 gauge wire from the battery and then run all the electronics to it ..... or run each unit directly to the battery with an inline fuse close to the battery.

It is also possible you have a weak battery.  Some of the auto parts stores will load test it for you for free.

Being a auto tech, I have seen my share of problems with OPTIMA batteries. I run a dedicated #8 gauge wiring to the front of my boat. Have a aux fuse panel mounted under. This is where I tap off for all front electronics, spot light. I have one at the console also. If you run separate wiring,  go bigger than the recommended gauge you won't go wrong. Some auto parts stores will have battery cabling on a reel that they can sell by the foot. I did this when my 899 would just shut down then restart all by its self. Never did find a fault, then it just fixed its self.

Bigger wire will never cause a problem ..... too small a wire will.
