Title: sd cards
Post by: gwiles on April 16, 2016, 11:44:41 PM
Hi folks,
Had the boat on the water a couple times with a new 999,  fantastic.  Now, a couple more questions:
1. Just bought a Lakemaster chip, can I leave it in or should I take it out at the end of the day?
2. I'd take it out except for the problem closing the sd card cover and kicking the card out.  I checked old posts and it seems a common problem.  One solution was shaving the inside walls of   the box on the underside of the cover to get more clearance around the sd cards. .  Do I have that right?

There's really no problem with leaving the map card in the unit ... Just make sure the write protect switch on the LakeMaster card is locked so that no possible other data can be written to the map card ...
-----

There have been many reports of the 800/900 series card slot door actually popping the card out of the socket ...

Some have contacted HB for a new card slot door ... But results are the same with the replacement door ...

I see no problem with shaving the rectangle down ... Let us know if your modification solves the issue ... This could help others ...

A card in the left slot works fine.  A card in the right slot sticks out a bit more and causes the problem with the cover.  Bigger problems today: the depth reading is fluctuating wildly and the hdsi xducer is buzzing.  Third trip to the lake and I'm grounded.  Lovely.

Update: Talked to Humminbird Support today and they said if I modified the sd card cover it would invalidate the warranty, and to send the unit in for repair.  With fishing season upon us, I think I'll just use the left slot and send the unit in next fall before the warranty expires.  Summers are short enough around here!

Does HB want the unit for fixing the card slot door or the depth issue and xducer buzzing issue ...??

The card slot door.  For the depth problem they want me to change the depth range from"auto" to 10' more than max depth of the lake, claiming that a change in lake bottom hardness can send the depth readings haywire.  The buzzing or clicking they claim is normal.

Hard bottoms can definitely cause the unit to have trouble establishing bottom contact ...

You can also try Switchfire Clear mode and reduce the sensitivity some ...

Appreciate your help, Rickie.  Now when I get my truck back from the shop I can go to the lake and try these ideas out.  Played with the sd card cover today and after about 15 minutes was able to get 2 cards in and the cover closed!  I may just leave it that way for the entire season!
