Title: Which one: Helix 10 or 1199?
Post by: sra61 on March 04, 2016, 01:24:25 PM
I think I'm going to get a second unit. I have a 999 HD SI, but think my old eyes could benefit from a little larger screen. I see the 1199's for an average $500 - $700 more than a Helix 10. Does the 1199 have some extra capability that I'm not aware of? I believe the Helix will work with my 999 with a ethernet switch and both run off of the one SI transducer. What are the opinions out there on the subject?

I would't buy the 1199 unless you find and EXTREMELY good deal on one since it is now an obsolete product.

Humminbird reduced the price of the 10" units radically when they released the Helix series.....They have Autochart Live built in, faster processor, much brighter screen with higher pixel density, they have a fix for the data box problem ... and they are the current series that will be updated with new features first and for a couple years longer than the 99 series.  Better yet go with a Helix 12 and get chirp on the standard transducer.

There is a software release coming out soon that will give support for Smartstrike on the Helix series ..... This and other things may never make it to the 99 series.

who knows what the future updates will be ..... Humminbird just added chirp functionality with the Onix series that will work with the standard transducer without using an SM3000 module.
