Title: 1197 to GX1600 VHF GPS Problems
Post by: diy_darryl on August 04, 2015, 08:45:41 AM
I have a Standard Horizon GX1600 Vhf Radio that I just connected to the GPS on my 1197 unit and it is not working properly. I wired it as Humminbird Greg stated in a different thread: (copy/paste below)

VHF Radio wires  -  Humminbird GPS Receiver wires
Blue (GPS Input +)  -  White (GPS Output)
Green (GPS Input -)  -  Black (NMEA Ground)

I am not seeing coordinates on my GX1600 display and the Map on my 1197 is jittery (keeps shifting position back and forth by a small amount).

Is there a baud rate or something I need to setup on my 1197?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Okay, did some more googling which led to the 1197 owners manual.

It states that NMEA Output is defaulted to 'OFF', so I will need to turn that 'ON'.

Not sure why my MAP is jittery after connecting the VHF but will have to see if that issue resolves itself after enabling NMEA OUTPUT????

I turned on the NMEA output and my VHF now correctly displays my location.

However........ My map display on my 1197 is still jittery and jumping around, even at anchor. This did not start occurring until I connected my gps to my VHF.

Any suggestions are appreciated.
