Title: 998c HD SI black line
Post by: hgv on February 25, 2014, 03:06:16 PM
I have a black line that is running end to end horizontally in the switch fire mode.

Any ideas? Did not do this until I moved it to another boat.

Not SI. It is 2D and the black line is called a temperature graph. I think it is a default item. It can be turned off in a menu.

Looks like the water you were in did not vary much from the 55 degree mark.

May I ask how you got all the side views off except those two you wanted? I Just got one of the 998 HD SI and haven't really played with it yet because of work and weather. Is there an option to turn off each display?

Thanks
Keith

There many different views. I think you will be way ahead of the learning curve if you take the time to read the manual and then try using the simulator to change things and see what happens when you do. We all want to just have it work but after the investment we put out I personally want to get everything out of it I can. These are sophisticated units and to get benefit out of them without a bunch of frustration. Get familiar with it before you need it to help catch more fish.  Bob

After using the unit a few times ... You will start to develope a pattern of the views that you use the most, the views you use a little... And the views you never use ...

Shutting off the views you never use will reduce the button pushes need to manipulate the unit efficiently...

Another tip I find very helpful is to set one of the 3 preset buttons to "Full screen chart"...

Then ...  any time I need to Zoom in or out or the chart ... I can simply press 1 preset button and have instant access to the + and - button functions..

Conversely...if I am viewing a split view Chart/SI or Chart/DI...I would have to first recognise which way the green arrow was pointing-open the Xpress menu-change the active panel-then use + or - to zoom the chart...way too many button pushes just to change the zoom level of the chart ...

Thanks Rick for the info. I already have a 798 and a 898 so i am familiar with the views etc. I was just wondering if the new software had anything to do with the views but after reading my manual it doesn't have any thing to do with the new update HB put on the unit for me.

Thanks again
