Title: XHS 9 HDSI 180T vs XTM 9 HDSI 180T transducer question
Post by: silvercloud on February 24, 2014, 04:37:00 PM
Greetings all-I've been a member here for quite a few years, asked a few ?s when I bought my first HB a few years back-a 798C SI that I purchased for my 14' Lund C14 tinner. A couple weeks ago I sprung for a new-to-me Lund Alaskan  ;D and now am working on purchasing the necessary goodies to rig it the way I want. I initially planned to use my original 798 on the bow and buy a newer larger screen for the rear-I purchased a slightly experienced 898C SI for this. After researching the limitations of Interlink and pricing out the needed extras to mount my 798 in the new boat while leaving my little boat prepped to use it, I took a deep breath and sprung for a 998c HD SI on a super clearout price to move to the rear, and use the previously purchased 898 on the bow with Ethernet link between the pair. I would like to mount the 898s transducer on a bow mount Minn Kota PowerDrive I purchased (in advance of the boat when a deal presented itself). By the looks of things, a Transducer Shield mount is the strongest and cleanest way to do this. I am curious if there are any internal differences between the supplied XHS 9 HDSI 180T transducer that came with the 898 (and I assume will be packaged with the 998-it won't be here for a week or so yet) and the XTM 9 HDSI 180T transducer on the Humminbird website (ie extra internal shielding for a TM application?) that would require me to use it or if the included one will be fine for this application? I'm trying to research as much as I can as my rigging time gets shorter and shorter as winter drags out up here. :(

Thanks
Jason

All of the 800 series Si units have been shipped out with the extra shielding built into their XHS-9-HDSi-180-T transducers.  This change was made to these transducers way back around August of 2008 even before the 800 series line-up was made.

The XHS-9-HDSi-180-T and XTM-9-HDSi-180-T is the same transducer but they are shipped out with different hardware and installations guides.

Thanks for the replies fellas. This will save me a few $ to put towards the rest of the setup-I am going to spend it to pull some extra Ethernet cables while I have it torn apart in anticipation of Ipilot Link and 360 Imaging at some point in time down the road.

Thanks again
Jason
