899 si new installation question
« on: January 25, 2015, 10:32:23 PM »
Just joined the site, so this is my first post.  Just purchased a 899 SI, purchased a 998 at the end of the summer and been waiting to install them at the same time.  Question is should I put 2 transducers on the back of the boat and link the units or should I go ahead and install a transducer on the trolling motor.  Seems if I mounted 2 transducers on the back of the boat the way the sonar works I would be in good shape at the front of the boat.  I have a 20' Charger.  Does anyone have an opinion or recommendation on this.  Thank you!

Your sonar information is going to be of most benefit when it is relating closer to where you are in the boat at the time ...

Fishing at bow with sonar data coming from the transom puts your image data 20ft behind where you are at the bow ...

SI at the bow is very beneficial for finding new structure while you are fishing from the bow ...

So, for the unit at the console do you recommend 2 transducers for the side imaging?

It is generally not necessary to use 2 transducers on the transom....only if you can't get a clear view from side to side without obstructions......such as a pontoon boat.

You could post some pics of your transom from different angles if you suspect you can't get a clear view from side to side.
**Looking for the one that makes it all worthwhile**

Thank you, I should be good with just one.  I just wanted to make sure I got it right.  Thank you again for your help.
