Nubi DI question
« on: August 06, 2012, 01:49:28 PM »
I spent a fair amount of time yesterday watching my jig at 13' in 15' yesterday playing with 83/200hz adjustments. In sonar I could dial it in to almost see the hair on the jig  ;) But:

Shouldn't I be able to see it in DI view also? I had both views up on my 1198c SI but very faint jig view in DI at full sensitivity.

You may be able to see it in the Di sonar but it will not appear the same.  The Di sonar comes from the Si sonar beams which are very thin front-to-rear (something like 1 degree) versus the much wider 20 and 60 degree beams of the 200kHz and 83kHz sonar.  So anything shown in the Di sonar will produce a smaller sonar return due to the much thinner sonar beams being used.  Also, depending on the background and color pallets used, the 2D sonar returns may be far easier to see than the Di sonar returns.

Thanks Greg, that makes sense.
But, is there no Chart/side/sonar view?
Why?

No, there is no Chart/Side Imaging/Sonar View.  My guess is that it was not in the original specs of Views for the unit.  It could be because they would have had to make either the Si or Chart window extra small to do so and maybe because they did not think about adding it.

Thanks Greg,
I don't know about others but for me my chart has to be up all the time. I feel that I'm missing out by not having a chart (even if small) / either a DI or sonar / SI.  When running weed edges with cranks once you see the weeds on SI/Sonar it's to late so you need a track from earlier scouting to follow. Especially when running lead line...that's not fun to keep reeling & resetting to pull accidental weed catches off when you take a quick peek at another view, then "Oh s***, Darn weeds again" Now with iLink (Minn kota) coming I can't use my (L word) chart-plotter either to mark way-points & use them. And I don't believe Humminbird has a chart-plotter available for the network/iLink setup.
BTW...when iLink comes, does the chart have to be up to follow (not chose) a chosen contour depth?
Thanks again!

ScottMN,
You should add the Chart/Sonar/Side Imaging combination View as a request in the Humminbird Wish List section (if it is not already there).

I am guessing here but I would not think that the Chart View would have to be displayed for the Minn Kota i-Pilot Link to follow a contour line – but this is all guesswork until these things hit the market.
