Title: New Firmware Available for 1198c
Post by: Whistler on July 11, 2012, 09:45:52 PM
I've noticed that firmware version 6.420 is now available for my 1198c.  Does anyone have any details about it?  The only thing I see is that NEMA 2000 compatability is included.

That is the only change that I have heard of as well.
Other unit models should be getting this same software change as well.

The only change that I have heard of so far is the addition of the NMEA 2000 capability.

The 6.180 release has introduced a plethora of problems across many units including both my 998 and 1198. Putting out another release on top of it without stating the new release resolves current issues is irresponsible. Some folks may be sitting on a release prior to 6.180 purposely, awaiting for 6.180 to be resolved, now Humminbird introduces new features which that individual wants, but cannot due to the SEEMINGLY unresolved issued from 6.180. Greg, restarting issues (caused by quick view changes) and slow responsiveness has been the majority of issues introduced by 6.180. What is the status of Humminbird identifying and resolving the bugs? Tons of people are complaining, HB cannot deny the issues and should easily be able to reproduce these issues. So, what if 6.180 either introduces the possibility of creating corrupt waypoints OR is more effected if you have a corrupted waypoint? It's still a bug and must be fixed. I have been plagued by marking a waypoint then quickly changing my view to navigate to the offshore spot, then have the unit restart right in the middle of my navigation... the pro's have had to have similar problems and likely are testing a fix or have reverted to an earlier release.. what is the status??

I had this problem with my 998, then ordered an 1198, got it loaded with 6.180, took it on the water and what do you know, RESTARTS!

The 6.180 update took down my 1197c.
The XM did not work, and everything was
so slow, I had to go to a previous version.

Does HM have an FTP site or some means to download prior releases?

Not that I know of.
But never fear, this site has it all.
You can get any prior release you need at:

I am not privy to this type of information n_texas_basser.  I only know what has been documented from our Engineering and Marketing departments and the only thing that I know for the 6.420 is the addition of the NMEA 2000 capability.  I do know that we (Humminbird) pays attention to and tracks any reported software problems that we can verify.  Problems that arise from a certain combination of menu settings or from corrupt software download files or Nav Data are very hard to pin down.

I would recommend to anyone that is going to update the software in their units to download their Nav Data to their computer and then delete it from their Humminbird unit before updating the software.  When the software is updated they should upload their Nav Data from HumminbirdPC and Replace the Nav Data on the memory card before loading it back into their unit.
