2 Transducers With 1198 Units
« on: May 20, 2012, 10:27:48 AM »
Ok folks...I started out with 2 transducers with my 1198.  Then I had a problem with either the older 2 d  transducer storting out or my "y" cable.  I know basically the only good reason ( I think ) on running 2 transducers is running at a higher speed to tell water depth ?  Correct ?  Is there any other reasons and how do many of you run your...with 2 transducers or just the one that comes with the unit.  I will post and wait for your replys.  Thanks again for this great website.  What  GREAT Resource tool for us Side Image folks.

The water depth at high speed is the only reason I installed the 2nd transducer.  I epoxied one to the hull for 2d, depth reading up to 45 mph haven't pushed it any faster. Running the y cable setup.

calli1:
I think the main reason for two transducers is for high speed boats.
The transom sometimes lifts out of the water so high on these, that the standard
transducer is no longer submerged, and won't work properly.

There is another reason for having two transducers, which I am now contemplating.
You could get a 2-D transducer with more detail and coverage than the standard HB transducer.
An Airmar, for instance.

The side-imaging, down-imaging will still come from the standard HB transducer, while
the 2-D can be from another transducer.
All the units get their depth from the 2-D transducer.

Yes on the AS-Si-DB-Y cable.
The inside-the-hull transducer you need is the XP-9-20.

Greg...I'm going with a outside mount on my transom and the Humminbird Tech lady said the  XNT - 9 - 20   .  Is she right...hope so....the trans is on order now.  I have a Aluminum boat and do not trust the through the hull transducer.

calli1, did not know or remember that you had an aluminum boat so the outside XNT-9-20 transducer would be the correct one.
