Title: Google Earth in Humminbird PC trouble
Post by: JMill on September 06, 2017, 08:46:14 AM
Hey guys, I'm Jon and I'm new here. I'm new to Humminbird PC and Google Earth, so please bear with me. I just downloaded Humminbird PC and imported my waypoints from a SD card into the program. When trying to open Google Earth in Humminbird PC I couldn't find it in the directory and changed something. Now when I click the Google Earth icon nothing happens. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Humminbird PC version - 4.5.5
Google Earth version - 7.3.0.3832

The easiest thing at this point may be to uninstall Google Earth and reinstall Google Earth  ...

I just did this myself a couple days ago to confirm for another user that the above works when there is difficulty finding the GE.exe for Humminbird PC to direct to  ...

I gave that a shot with no luck. Its strange, once I go through the "cannot find google earth at default path" popup and actually download Google Earth I cannot get that pop up to come up again so I can find the googleearth.exe.

Let me try to better explain what happened in the first place. When I tried opening Google Earth and was prompted to locate its default path I chose something wrong. So now when I hit the GE icon nothing happens. Its as if its looking in the wrong place, if that makes sense? Thanks

I think you need to uninstall and then reinstall HumminbirdPC.  That should allow you to re-select the correct path to GoogleEarth.

I had not looked at HB PC for some time. I'm guessing as of 8/17/2017 with google earth update my problem started. I cannot view waypoints on googleearth through the icon. I can view, if I enter file directly into googleearth file search. My program files are set to client. However, under googleearth.exe.local ,it shows 0 bytes. I have removed both HB PC and googleearth pro programs more than 3 times, downloaded each, and reinstalled with same results. What should I try?

Yes, the following.  Error Code 0x80070057   I've looked at the code, and seems like too many variables.

Is there more verbiage in the error popup  ... Like asking you to direct a path to Google Earth  ...??

No. When I deleted google earth from program file last night, I thought I would reload it by hitting the icon in HB PC. But it did not bring up the load google earth message. Just the same error code shown previously. I have also tried deleting HB PC, that was listed under my Helix, and reloaded HB PC from my 998 file. Same error.

When I un-installed Google Earth - I did not even check if HBPC would prompt me to download GE again  ...

I re-installed Google Earth manually  ...

Then HBPC populated the GE (globe) icon and it was usable without further notice of any errors  ...

Hey all.. ran into same problem today when trying to update my various waypoints. Been quite awhile since I last used GE. I could not get it to work even after deleting a reinstalling both HB PC and GE. Long story short, @ some point my GE updated to newest version GE Pro. It is NOT compatible with HB PC. You have to use classic (older) version of GE (I used ver 7.1.8.3036 GoogleEarthWIN). I don't believe the new chrome ver will work either. The classic ver worked fine, no issues (finally got thru to HB tech and they conf that newest ver of GE not compatible). Work around- if you still want to use GE Pro (more features?), you can load GE Pro manually. When you upload data card to HBPC it created directory SD-171020d.gpx (for example). In separate window open GE Pro. Go to FILE, IMPORT, MY HB PC directory (might be in documents folder), select GPX files (select all files *.*) Will then import all into GE Pro. I had the data I wanted in Waypoint sub directory. Hope this helps.  :)
