998c SI need Tech Info
« on: November 02, 2012, 06:12:29 PM »
Can someone tell me if the below is correct.

DOWN IMAGE si:
1.   Sonar coverage at water depth.
a.   Down Image set to “Narrow” equals 1/3 times water depth coverage at bottom. Example 21 ft. water depth equals 7 ft. bottom coverage.
b.   Down Image set to “Medium” equals 1 times water depth coverage at bottom. Example 21 ft. water depth equals 21 ft. bottom coverage.
c.   Down Image set to “Wide” equals 1.5 times water depth coverage at bottom. Example 21 ft. water depth equals 31.5 ft. bottom coverage.

STD. SONAR 2D:

d.   Sonar 2D setup with 200kHz transducer “only” equals 1/3 times water
     depth. Example 21 ft. water depth equals 7 ft. bottom coverage.
e.   Sonar 2D setup with 200kHz / 83kHZ transducers, equals 1 times water depth coverage at bottom.

Increasing Chart Speed to Boat Speed will stretch the object in SI. Example: A brush pile can be opened up a little so you can see inside better if you increase Chart Speed above boat speed if possible.

      The numbers that I have are:
            Down Image- narrow= 1.25x depth    20'depth=25'coverage
                               medium= 1.5 x depth     20'depth=30'coverage
                                    wide= 2.5 x depth     20'depth=50'coverage

     200kHz sonar 2D coverage is 1/3rd the depth.
     I think 200+83 kHz is 1 to1, but I can't find my chart right now.

Thanks for your input. I think the 2D with 200 or 200/83 is correct. I'm just not sure on the DI on the 998. Maybe someone for HB will jump in.

Doug

Attached is a pdf part of Doug Vahrenberg's 9 part video seminar, tried to post the whole seminar overheads but it is to large at 50 pages. tried breaking it up into 4 parts but was still to large.  This should answer your question.

If you want to view the seminar it is in a Power Point presentation at  ---> http://www.dougvahrenberg.com/index.html <--- at the bottom of the page.

The video presentation is at ---> http://www.dougvahrenberg.com/Videos.html  <--- towards the bottom of this page.  His site has a lot of good information.
