I've done numerous upgrades on my unit without any problems but today on my upgrade to 4.950 all went well initially, but when the unit went to restart it goes from the loading screen to flashing "press menu for start up options" over and over. (Yes, I restored defaults before updating.) A quick check on this forum and I found that it looks like I need to purchase an AS PC2 cable for $20 and a usb to serial cable which is as much as $30 then try bootstrap mode? Am I correct? I won't be a happy camper here if I have to spend $50 of my money because of a software upgrade. Any help appreciated.

TapOut64,
What steps did you use to the update? Did you put the sd card in before or after you powered on?
Here are few things to try. Unplug the power form the unit and remove the SD card. Power up again and see if it will come up.
If not, download the previous firmware update and put it on the sd card. Remove the 4.950. Then, put the sd card in the unit and power up and see if it will start the update process.
If not, you will probably have to get the PC Connect cable and fix it in bootstrap mode.
Good Luck,
Robert

Where can I get the previous firmware update? I don't see it under my account at Hummingbird. Thanks for your help.

We keep them here on the forum in the download section.

Well, it looks like I'm buying some cables. It would not load the older version. I put the SD card in, then powered up when I tried the upgrade. The only way I think I messed up was that the SD card had some other files on it???

When did you put the SD card in on the original install, before or after you powered on the unit? This is where we find most problems. Some units will not take the updates properly if you insert the SD card first and then power on.

Yea, I guess I messed up. I put the card in then powered up. I now know to power up first then put the card in. One question though, do I put the card in after it's fully booted up, during the boot up process, or does it not matter so long as it's after you power up? Thanks again for your help.

I would also like to know if you wait until the unit fully boots up to insert an SD card in the unit to upgrade it and how you upgrade after it's fully booted up. I've alwasy upgraded by powering the unit up with the SD card installed and waiting on the prompt to upgrade....evidently this is not the correct way to do it?

Here is my video on how to perform the update. Yes, you will wait till the unit boots up before inserting the SD card.
