Topic: universal sonar

I was just wondering what frequency minn kota's universal sonar transducer uses? i have a 550x hummingbird on the bow and was wondering what settings i should be using... couldn't find any info on minn kota's site....

Not sure of the freq but on your HB look for interference if both are on.
If there is none then it should be away from the HB freq..
I will look around for the mink freq..
Since they advertise the type for HB dualbeam it very well may be within the HB spectrum.

thanks... i've never noticed interference with it yet... i'm thinking of upgrading it anyway was just curious more than anything....

I found this on the web:

Minn Kota has designed and utilizes a 196 kHz transducer that operates within a + or - range of ~ 6 kHz (190 kHz - 202 kHz) effectively covering the frequency range without sacrificing performance.

Okay... so that would prob work best with a 200khz setting on any unit then? would it cover 83/200?

The older Universal Sonar had only the 200kHz sonar capability while the newer US2 sonar has the 200/83kHz sonar capabilities.  So any Humminbird 200kHz only unit would work on either one.  The 200/83kHz capable Humminbird units would need to be paired with the newer US2 or only the 200kHz part of their sonar will work correctly.
