Just purchased the 898...I can tell you it's awesome!!!!
« on: January 20, 2011, 01:48:02 AM »
Just installed the 898 on a 2004 bass tracker and I"m amazed by what I've seen in the short time.

If you need any reassurance about purchasing the 898...trust me, it's worth the money.

Deepcover,

Uh, you know you can get in a lot of trouble for growing that stuff in your yard!  ;D  Oh, after closer inspection, it's just bamboo! Sorry about that!  ::)

Welcome to the forum.   Nice image.  So how did you get the bamboo and stakes in the water?  Is this a flooded lake or something?

I just dug a hole where I usually have my garden, filled the hole with quikcrete and then stuck the cane and stakes in the quikcrete.  I let it set for several days and it just pulls right out of the ground.  Went out and dropped a couple of bouys and then dropped the structure between the buoys.
This is on a portion of Kentucky lake.

I would say the larger returns at the bottom of the image are definately fish...not sure about the cloud....

Sometimes propwash from a passing boat looks similar to that cloud...although propwash is usually closer to the surface...(because it's basicallly bubbles)

No, that is definitely a large school of fish.

The prop wash creates very small air bubbles that hang in the water and produces the cloud effect.  It is pretty much just a haze like though with no discernable bubbles or object.  In the image above, you can actually see the fish.

Here's another picture from a different view.   Would like any insight that anyone could give on describing this picture.

RGecy...could you give me a little more on how you can tell they are fish?  What am I actually looking for?

Pretty amazing.  I've used almost two tanks of gas this week just riding around on the lake and looking.

mvinc,  im guessing maybe 100 yards up stream and pritty mutch in front of all of the gates. about 45 feet deep on top of coffer and right at 100 feet on dam side        P.s.  good catfishing on the top of some of it....

Kosmo, My 898 is being shipped so I don't have any experience.  Is it about 80 ft deep in that picture? Am I reading that correctly?  Most of my fishing is 80-120 ft is why I ask.

i dont remember ,but i think about 60 feet at the beginning of the right scan and about 40 to 45 feet on top of coffer and abvout 100 feet on the other side of coffer.

Some time back, I borrowed a book from a guy a work titled "The Kentucky Dam Project"...which told of the entire story of the KY Dam...all the way back from inception...to design...to acquisition and clearing of the land...to construction...

It was a very interesting book for someone raised here so close to the dam as myself...

I tried to buy the book from him but he wouldn't sell it...

I may try to borrow it again just to read the story again....

It was quite an undertaking for the early '40's...

You are so right.  During this time of our country many projects were taken on. And with many a story from start to stop. Great reading material and great insite to the lakes that were formed as well as the river system. The TVA is another good project to read about.
A lot of history in this area of our country during this time.
And you are right on another thing.  These books are getting harder to find.
Let us know of anything you find.

Deepcover, could you tell me (here or in PM) how much did you spent in the 898?

Thank you in advance,
