Navionics or Lakemaster chip?
« on: September 03, 2015, 12:01:34 PM »
I purchased an 899 CI HD SI and installed it. I have a few kinks to work out.  This replaced a 787C2i with navionics built in. Is there ANY way to download the navionics info from the 787 to load onto the 899?  Should I purchase a navionics chip or lakemaster chip for the 899?  99.99% of the time I fish Lake St. Clair.  Navionics has contour lines at 3ft intervals but I cant find info on lakemaster. Only about a $20 difference.  Which is better?  Is there another option?

There is no way to copy the Navionics map info to another machine.
Navionics does not allow copying of their map info.
You could end up corrupting the machine the map info is on.
I have used Navionics, and I just got a Lakemaster card.
Both have great detail.
I couldn't tell you which one is better.
I would contact both, to see what they offer.

Thanks for those.  I know Lake St. Clair is covered by both lakemaster and navionics.  What is the contour level of lakemaster on St. Clair? 3ft intervals? 1 ft?  Just wondering which is cleaner or more accurate.

Can I run both chips?  899 has dual card slot.

Google says.  The Lake was surveyed last in 1984 and at 3 foot.  All maps are based on that.
It depends where else you fish.  I would look for a new or used chip or you can always go for a subscription thing like navionics has for smartphones/tablets at about $18/year.
New stuff is coming out on a regular basis now.  In 5 years you may be able to pull down a map of the lake off the net and use it on your FF.

You might want to ask on a forum that guys fish Lake St. Claire.
