I have been playing with my unit and when it almost died.
I had been marking way points on Navionics PC APP and uploading them to my 798 CI HD when I got a message that there was too much data to save on the unit. I lost power because my power cord was loose again. When I got back in to the unit, it would freeze when ever I tried to access the WT Management system or any DI. I could not use the unit to trouble shoot the problem or free up memory.I tried to reload the current software and it would not load because it was the current version.
Researching the forum, I installed a prefious version of the firmware and then reloaded the current verion. Other that eliminating my WT groups, everything was working fine after the reload of the firmware.
I reorganized the Way Points thaat were still there and I am back to where I was before the unit started locking up.
This whole episode scared me because there are some nice days out there and I did not want to lose the use of my new 798. Thanks for having the previous versions of the firmware. Using them, I was able to recover without having to call Humminbird customer support.

The old school of thought is to backup whenever you can, great job for saving everything. As we go we learn and all of us take great pleasure in seeing success.

Sounds like you might have a corrupt waypoint causing the unit to lockup.

I agree with the probablity that I had a corrupt way point that caused the hangup. Navionics PC App is great for viewing the lake maps but seems poor for exporting data and importing data. The application does not seem very robust at the current time and almost no instructions. I think they still have a lot of bugs to work out. I will probably use it for researching possible fishing locations and then I will manually enter the way points into my Hummminbird plotter.

Thanks for this thread. My 998 starting locking up after I added numerous waypoints from SD card. I had just recently installed the latest update then added the waypoints. I just knew I was going to have to ship in for repair. I searched the forum and found this thread. I carefully looked over my new waypoints and a few had duplicate names and a few had wrong coordinates. I changed the waypoint names and deleted the odd ball waypoints. I downloaded a previous version from this site, installed on unit, then reinstalled the latest version. Put in my new waypoints and all is working great now. This forum rules.
