« on: November 26, 2011, 04:31:08 PM »
Hey fellas, I have a Nitro NX 750 that I want to install a 898 si unit on. I have the head unit installed on the console. I just was wondering if anyone has already done the trial and error on the Nitros. So if anyone has done this install please share your experiance. Thanks a bunch !!!

It has been done and a lot posted on this forum.  Use the search tab at the top and look at what is pictured and posted...
From the postings it is important to have the transducer placed in an appropiate place..

I HAVE searched the forum and all I have come up with is where guys ask where to mount it and someone chimes in and says to do exactly what you said to do. Thanks

Ice, try varying the search argument.  I have seen a lot of posting in the past and with descriptions of location.
Bottom line is the transducer is very sensitive to outside infouence (caused by location). I would also try a temp mount for any selected location so that you dont make holes where not needed.
Also boat loading will affect the transducer. As well as size of fishing mate with his/her gear. (could tilt the boat)
Coolers or other items can also make a change.
Equal weight distribution is certainly a consideration.
Check some of the gallery pictures also..
I think a temp mount may be the best in determining the final location.
There are posts on Nitro so I also wonder why they guys are not posting to help you..

You could try searching some of the other posting boards that have pictures of transducer installs on the Nitros or you could post some pictures of your Nitro’s transom and hull and let us make some suggestions for the placement of the HDSi transducer.
You planning on going with the one HDSi transducer install or are you looking at adding an inside-the-hull 2D transducer (like the XP-9-20) and using the AS-Si-DB-Y cable?

I was actually wondering. I had a 597 ci hd mounted on the console where the 898 si is now. The transducer is still glued into the hull. Can I get that y-cable and hook the transducer from the 597 to the 898?

Yes you can icepreddy.  The 597ci HD unit uses the standard DualBeam transducer and sonar frequencies (200/83kHz).  This is the same 200/83kHz 2D sonar that is built into the 898’s HDSi transducer.  The Y-cable you will need to connect both transducers to the 898 unit is AS-Si-DB-Y cable.

Ice,
I recently installed my 898 transducer on a Skeeter 16.5 footer with a smaller transom than most big rigs.
when I got my 898 I had no idea where or how to mount my SI transducer.
I did some research and found the Sternmate transducer mounting system.
I didn't want to drill holes in the transom, and the Sternmate uses an Epoxy which can be removed without damaging the finish.
I called the 800 number on the website and spoke to Capt. Chris
He asked me to send him some pictures of my transom, I did, he called me back, and we both went over the best location we thought the SI transducer would work.
I had to make install decisions based on our conversation, but the ducer is installed and working great!!.
I don't work for sternmate or related to the folks or anything like that, It's a great product and they offer great advice, I say give them a call.

good luck

So does the XP-9-20 require a switch that has to be switched or does the splitter and the HB automatically coinside?  I have a stock Tracker transducer already in my hull.  (2001 NX750)  Is there a chance this transducer would work for High speed w/o installing another?  In Iowa so havent been able to just plug it in and test it.  Lakes have just now opened up.  Thoughts?
Hoping to Weigh in.....
