Title: Transducer Placement on Fiberglass Lund.
Post by: DiemakerDave on March 06, 2012, 08:31:22 PM
Greetings All,

1st. post here and hopefully not beating a dead horse too much.

After going through all the installation pictures I found on here and reading all the search results, I still have questions.  :-\

The transducers on the boat will be coming off or will be relocated higher. I think they're 200 kHz, one is a Wide 100 and the other is a flasher. The back of our boat has steps up along the "V", which I haven't seen too many installation pictures of.

The transducer that came with the boat, on the right side picks up at speed half of the time right now. Haven't really played with it since it was getting replaced. I don't think I want to mount the new one there, seems a little bit too close to the turbulence from the prop.

I'm thinking of installing the transducer in one of 2 places, either before the step (1) or after (2) in the picture or should I go to the closer step? Not quite sure which side of the step I should be on.

Hopefully it won't pick up the motor while it's down. The motor is down in the picture where it normally is, but the transducer is a little bit longer then the gap between where the boat plug goes and the motor.

Thanks

Dave

Normally, on Fiberglass boats, you mount the transducer inside the hull, in the bilge..

Just do a test before glueing it down since some fiberglass setup might not work

I learn something everyday so would there be a difference inside versus outside. :)

What model unit do you have.....SI is usually mounted on the transom and sometimes a 2D transducer is mounted inside the hull for high speed 2D readings.  Inside the hull depends on the kind of fiberglass for the 2D.
