Another Interlink Question for 998SI to 958
« on: May 13, 2011, 01:19:51 AM »
I was aware that I could use an ethernet cable or the interlink to link these two units.  I choose Interlink because I didnt want to share the sonar data.  I fish from the front and want to know the exact depth there when I'm fishing.  The puck is in the back and I'll have to make the 18 foot adjustment when I'm fishing in the front (length of the boat).  All my research and waypoint entries will be done with the rear graph.  I rigged the boat last weekend but I couldnt get them to share data.  I assume it is because I havent updated the software on both units.  Is this a correct assumption?  Or is it because " interlink does not work on units that have older and newer software than 5.310"?  I bought the 998SI las summer and the 958 last month and I am not sure yet what software versions I have and what the latest updates are.  Does this mean that I in fact wont be able to share data between the two?

You may have to update,I tried interlinking a 997 with 5.32 to a 998 with 5.41,it did not work till i  upgraded the 997 to 5.45. There could have been other issues, but the upgrade fixed it.

Fyi on eithernet. you can select which sonar you want on which unit,it is a simple hookup. also you can select which gps source to use on each unit. so then you would not have to calculate waypoint offset. but you would need a puck on the bow for the bow unit.

I also had that problem with the same units. I tried to update but had problems so becaeful. hb just came out with an update for the 1197 so exspect the one for ours will come soon. hopefully the problem i had is fixed. Also i am going from interlink to ethernet and you can use the transducer on each unit. you dont have to share sonar readings.
