Title: Creating a Wide Wing to Tow Hydrophones

I am looking to build a wide underwater wing to mount two hydrophones, preferably at each end of the wing. The idea is to use this, along with other hydrophones to detect and localise cetaceans. The design must be as stable as possible and can't vary a huge amount with tow speed.
I've sketched two basic designs but have no experience in building such things.
Side scan sonar must have to be pretty stable, however none of the wing system seem wide enough for the purposes of this array.

What do people think?

I had considered building a similar rig for a Gradiometer setup.  It is possible.  You just have to make it so it can be deployed easily!

How far apart do the hydrophones have to be?   How deep does it need to go?

I will do a few diagrams and see what you think!

Cheers! Some drawings would be excellent. The hydrophones need to be separated by around 0.75-1.5 meters and towed at an ideal depth of 6-8 meters.

So about 5' apart.  I would consider a certral towfish with a tri-fin design.  Like a letter T.  The bottom would be weighted to keep it balanced and correct orientation in the water.  The top of the T would be about 5' across and you could trail the hydrophone from the ends.

Balance and bottom weight will be critical so it doesn't flip or tip on its side.

Actually 5' may be quite large. Looking at the array dimensions again half a meter would be fine. So a T shape is the best design?- interesting. Would the wings need to be flat or curved to provide lift? Do you know anyone any other designs/ pics of something like this?
