I have a 998 I purchased in March 2012 and the other day the GPS stopped working. Worked fine the previous day. Unit states GPS not connected. I checked all connections, rebooted, and reset to factory defaults but nothing solved problem. Unit cables stayed connected between when it worked and stopped working. I am going to take a close look at the puck and the pigtail on unit end, and will also check battery. After reading alot of posts, seems like a fairly frequent issue.

e1035, Try cleaning the plug ends and check the pins.
If that does not work call Humminbird to get a replacement.

The reason my GPS quit on me was the GR50 external antenna had moisture inside it. This caused corrosion on the 4 pins where the wiring connects. I called Humminbird right away and they are sending a new GR50. Lucky for me it was still under the 1 year warranty period. I was told the puck is on backorder so it might take up to a couple weeks to be up and running again.
