Will I have a problem with install?
« on: March 31, 2013, 05:07:21 PM »
Hello,
I am getting ready to install my 798 on a 1980 GW 195 Sportsman.
I'm thinking I am going to have a problem seeing past the motor.
Here is a picture of the old transducer that will be coming off the boat.

I won't mess with the engine setup with a jack plate, I fear my only option will be a two transducer setup.

Or,,
Would a bracket like this get it out far enough that I could trim the engine ?

I would just mount it on the hull and trim the motor up/out some when you are scanning.  I have a 23' Sea Pro with 225 OX66 and have the same issue.

I dont think the bracket is going to work, you will have problems with the turbulence and bubbles coming off the engine/prop.

I ultimately went with a dual transdcuer setup so I had complete coverage even if motor was trimmed down.

My advise would be to try it with one transducer and
see how it works.
You can always add the second transducer in the
future.

Thank you all for the input.
I just sent the boxed transducer back to HB to upgrade to a XHS 9 HDSI 180 T.
If I end up going with a 2 transducer setup, the second transducer should also be a XHS 9 HDSI 180 T correct?

Hello,
I spent today installing my 798.
I installed two XHS 9 HDSI 180 T connected to the unit via Y cable.
Does the unit automatically know I'm running two transducers? I powered it up and couldn't find any setting to pick two.

No, the unit doesn’t know that you have two transducers connected or even which transducer(s) is connected.  You do not have to make any menu changes as the unit will act as if it has just one whole HDSi transducer connected to it.
