998 csi update
« on: July 18, 2015, 09:36:32 AM »
I'm finally getting around to updating from v7.510 to v7.670. Do I need to disconnect the iPilot link ethernet cable and the GPS receiver module before I do this? This is the first time I have updated since I did the update for the iPilot link stuff. I have never disconnected the GPS before.
Thanks in advance.

From the HB FAQ's ...

If you have a product within our 300 - 1100 Series, we highly recommend that you RESTORE the defaults on your unit BEFORE you perform any software update.  Make sure that you use a blank SD or Micro Card that has no other Humminbird software or files loaded to it.  We also suggest that you disconnect any advanced accessories from the unit (i.e. Weathersense, Interlink, Cannonlink, etc) before proceeding.  The exceptions to this would be if you have the MinnKota iPilot Link or the Humminbird 360 Imaging attached.  Both of these items need to be connected to the unit in order to update their software which is done via Ethernet.

This indicates the iPilot should be connected "IF" the iPilot is going to be updated ...

If you are just updating the unit ... I would think less things connected at update would be less chances of things going awry ...

I always do updates with everything disconnected except power .... as Rickie said, the less things going on the better.

I don't have the I-pilot link or 360, but I think they could be connected after updating the unit and then update them.
**Looking for the one that makes it all worthwhile**

I just updated the 998. I used my Schumacher PC-6 power inverter and the extra power cord I bought for the unit last winter. I unhooked the cord collecter and the ethernet cable. I have updated without unhooking the GPS receiver with no issues but that was before I added i-Pilot link to the system. All is well.
I bought the inverter last winter to keep the units capabilities fresh in my mind over the long winters we have here in Iowa. I used it when I updated the i-Pilot lin remote, controller etc., when I first added the link system.
Thanks for the feedback fellas!
