Snapshots
« on: June 05, 2010, 11:23:20 AM »
Hello All,

I need some help. After about ten days with my new 898c SI unit, I cannot take snapshots with it. I have read the manual, punched buttons, searched this site for "snapshots", etc. until I am as the saying goes "Blue in the face". One time something I did saved one snapshot which I managed to bring up on my computer.

The Snapshot is On under the accessories menu, and I am using a Extreme III 4GB SD card. I am reasonable computer literate.

I have no trouble recording, and can bring the SD card in here to my computer and play it back using HumViewer. I have no trouble changing the readouts on the unit's screen, mark waypoints, etc., and am beginning to learn how to use the navigation system.

Would someone please give me a 1, 2, 3, … step by step set of instructions on how to take snapshots with my 898c SI. Thanks in advance.

Bert

PS My lake is the south end of Toledo Bend Reservoir. I am retired and live here on the Texas side. My boat, a G3, stays in my boat house in the water most of the time.

Got it!!! It seems my unit will not take a snapshot when it is recording, and evidently every time I tried before I was recording. Now if this is pointed out in the manual, I sure as hell missed it.

I'm going to try to Attach a sample. Don't know if this will work, and if it does, don't know if your computer can open it. Let me know.

Well ... . What the heck. That did not work at all the way I thought it was, but it looks like I have posted my first snapshot on this forum.

I think you are correct that the units will not take a snapshot while you are recording.....

Your snapshot post looks good...

That is a correct statement.
The units will not take a snapshot if recording is in progress.

Bert,

Looks like a good fishy spot.  I advise that if you post pics of structure in the future, either turn off your position fields beforehand or, if the position fields are showing in the pic, open the pic in Paint and erase the portion showing the location.  You invested a lot of money to find these spots so no need in sharing them with the world. ;)  If you lived near me and we fished the same areas I'd just quietly record the coordinates and not say anything.  But since you're way out there in Tejas I don't mind you keeping them secret. ;D

Good point countryboycansurvive. That thought never occurred to me I guess because this Toledo Bend Reservoir is so big there are more than enough good spots to go around. However, I am going to turn the position indicator on the scope off. I needed a spot to put the temp anyway. Thanks.

The more I learn about this unit the more I like it. Now if the boys at Humminbird would determine a way to put a print out by the fish naming the type - black bass, crappie, catfish ... .  ;D

I wish my local reservoir was that way.  It was impounded in 1956 so most of the original structure is long gone.  What's left can be hard to find, hence the 998c si.
