Have you tried checking connections.  Could anything be blocking the receiver.....when you lose the gps what does the diagnostic screen display...

Do both your 798c Si and 597 units use an external GPS Receiver?
If so, you can try connecting the 798 unit to the 597’s mount and see if the GPS will work or not.  That will help narrow down where the problem is.

I think  the 597 is an internal GPS antenna...did this change?

Not sure Chuck but I thought that we may have made an external model 597 unit years ago.  I did not check but if we did and he has one; this would be a good way to check his 798c Si unit (unless he listed it wrong and it has an internal GPS Receiver as well).  If the 798 is an internal GPS model than the only thing to do is contact Humminbird and ship it in to be looked at.

Thanks, I never saw a external mount. Might have been a promotion.
