I read on the HB site that the Si will not work correctly but the guy in this link says it works fine.

I’m probably going to get in trouble for answering this question this way, but here it goes: “maybe”.

In general, the Si sonar from one of our Side Imaging transducers will not work when mounted as an inside-the-hull (also known as a “shoot-thru hull”).  The Si sonar radiates out of the sides of the transducer.  If the sides (and a little above) are not acoustically coupled to the boat hull, part or all of the Si sonar will be blocked.  Even if they are coupled to the boat hull, the hull itself could cause some distortion of the Si sonar beams.  Than you have to worry about how much of the Si sonar signal is going to be attenuated by the hull of the boat plus whatever material you are using to acoustically couple them together.  There were some images posted on the UnOfficial Humminbird Side Imaging Group (Yahoo) many years back on this.  Let me see if I can still find them…

Here is the url to the post but I think you have to join the web site to see it: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/sideimaginggroup/conversations/topics/20899

The images:
The first is from the Shoot-Thru Hull HDSi transducer
The second is from a normally mounted transom mount HDSi transducer
The third is from the Shoot-Thru Hull HDSi transducer

So will it work?  Maybe, but there are no guarantee that yours will work or that it will work well but feel free to experiment but please post back some pictures of your install and some screen snapshots of what you get!
