999ci HD SI Incompatible w/ Cannonlink?
« on: February 22, 2016, 04:28:59 PM »
As I understand it the 999 is not compatible with the cannonlink, is that correct? Which of course I probably couldn't find anyway. It just seems kind of a step back in tech! Kind of seems counter productive as far as sales go. What that leads me to do is go cheaper on my rigger purchase because I really don't see much difference in the digitroll 5 and the mags. I would spring for the digitroll 5 if I could use the cannonlink. Am I correct in that the 999 can't be used with a connonlink?

That is what the 999 manual says. I think it was for use with the interlink which has been discontinued. Maybe they will get an interface for ethernet. Maybe call Cannon and see if they have any plans. As Rickie said your other choice is HB CS. Bob

This is what I got from Cannon CS:
That Link is/was indeed possible with CannonLink, but the CannonLink module was discontinued about 3-4 ago. We unfortunately have no stock left of them. I don't know that it is something I would pursue as not you somewhat have to rely on technology that isn't around anymore. Not only would you have to find the CannonLink module, but when that went away so did the programming for it in Humminbird fish finders. You would have to find one built prior to 2014 if you did you would never be able to up date it and maintain the CannonLink functionality

Yes they did have some features when all linked together. Unfortunately not enough people thought so. Unfortunately current Humminbird units are not compatible with CannonLink even if you could find the module.

I have the 997 CSI with canonlink and a digitrol 5 and love it.  I have not purchased a second digitrol so have a tournament series non digitrol DR as my other unit. Comparing the use of both the canonlink feature is highly preferred. I am about to purchase a second unit when the Helix 10 G2N is available in my region in Canada and will have to keep my 997 in order to use the canonlink. I'm just not sure at this point how the installation will go as I will of course want the new Transducer and would be nice to network if possible,

Its unfortunate they didn't keep the add on software for canonlink for the new units.
Someone at Cabelas told me the reason they did not continue with canonlink was simply due to lack of demand, however I find that hard to swallow as its so much more advanced in convenience and status.
