What to buy to go with 360 and 1199
« on: September 21, 2014, 09:11:15 PM »
Hi everyone.
I have a 1199SI and 360 on the bow with the hd transducer mounted on the trolling motor. 5port hub for the terrova and 360.  I originally also have a 598 mounted on the helm. I am wanting to net  the 1199 and 360 to the helm the 598 will not do this. So looking at a 8 or 9 series to replace the 598. Thinking may be best to move HD transducer to the back use US2 on trolling motor. Now for the question. Not to over buy what model would be best to do this? Main reason to do this is for the guy in the back to see 360. Question no.2  I think I have read here that you have to start the primary unit 1st with this type of set up? Which one should that be or would that matter. And yes I do have a 360 mounted on a terrova took four weekends and a lot of machining. I still would like side imaging at the helm. Thanks for any suggestions.

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums TR19.

I have a couple of questions for you:
1. Where do you want the Si sonar for the bow mount unit to be coming from: the trolling motor (like you have now) or the transom?
2. Would you be willing to move your 1199ci HD Si unit to the console and install an 800 or 900 series unit at the bow?

I would stay with an XX9 unit so that you can share all sonar between the two units.

I believe that after having this setup since spring and a lot of interference problems.  I finally have the 360 working properly. It does not have near the detail that the side imaging has. Think there has been 6 updates so far on my purchases.

Considering the interference, I need to know the proper way to set the boat all up.  With the 598si running it causes interference on the 360. (Thinking less is better, link it all together)  But would hate to give up down imaging option on the trolling motor by using the trolling motor transducer.

The 1199 is on the front because I read before purchase, that for the 360 the bigger the screen the better. They were right so it will stay up on the front.  I am up there 95% of the day anyway.

So how does humminbird suggest rigging a bass boat? (Considering interference questions.)  Do the pros use HD SI transducers front and back?

Different question. Should I have my GPS on 5k or10k for the ilink?

Don’t see a whole lot about 360 on this site.  Is the 360 considered side or not?

Thanks Greg! I have been on here every night since spring.  You all have been a big help.
I think its called learning curve. :)

TR19,
I don’t know what the pros are using as far as Si transducer locations as I do not work with them.  My guess would be that it depends on who sponsors them and what their deals dictate.

I don’t know that we have an official way to rig a bass boat, but if you want Side Imaging and Down Imaging sonar on the front and back there are only two ways to get it: either mount a unit and transducer at both locations or mount only one HDSi transducer and share it between two units,  It sounds to me like you want Si/Di sonar from both ends.  You could do this without interference if you did not turn the trolling motor too far left or right as this would point one of the Si beams back towards the transom mounted HDSi transducer and possibly cause interference.  The 360 Imaging accessory is a bit different though as it can broadcast its sonar in all directions (unless you set to do otherwise) and so you would have to make sure that it and the Si/Di unit you are using are set to different frequencies.  So maybe you only use the 455kHz Si/Di sonar on the bow unit and 360 while using the 800kHz Si/Di sonar on the rear mounted unit and transducer.

With that in mind I recommend you keep the HDSi transducer on the trolling motor and look at the 899ci HD Si, 999ci HD Si or 1199ci HD Si units for the console (and add their HDSi transducer to the transom).  When you connect any of these units to your 5-Port Ethernet Switch they will be able to share their 2D, Si and Di sonar with the bow 1199ci HD Si unit and can display the 2D, Si, Di sonar from the 1199 unit and the 360 Imaging accessory.

Greg have a 899Si ordered.  Thanks for your help you definitely have made this site what it is.

O one more question. For the spot lock on the terrova to work best there is a gps select on the 1199 which has the option 5k or 10k. Which should I chose for my external receiver?  Done a search and did not find anything on this here. Thanks again.

I don't know that it would matter but would use the faster (10k) setting.
