798 HD in 2011 catalog
« on: December 06, 2010, 02:47:40 AM »
Good morning you all.
Yesterday I read the new 2011 Humminbird catalog.
I noticed that 798 HD will have the dual frequency in side imaging.

455khz - 800khz.

Great !

Read the specs on the 798 again. It does not show 800 khz.

That is one of several misprints in the 2011 catalog…   >:(
The 798 units will only have the 455kHz Si sonar frequency.  None of the sonar specs has changed with the 2011 version 798 models.

The catalog has errors with the 788 units and others also.
The 788ci HD is 2D-only with two frequencies----83/200 khz
The 788ci HD DI is a single 2D frequency---200 khz, and a dual DI frequency---455/800 khz

You can get a accurate unit function by looking at the horizontal line titled
"Sonar . Standard"

Hm. Is a more low-end model 788ci HD DI  runs with 800 kHz.
798ci HD DI SI Combo no longer  ::)

The DI models have DOWN IMAGING in two frequencies (455/800)
and 2D in one frequency (200) No Side Imaging. Those are 2011 models.

The new 798ci SI HD will be two 2D frequencies (83/200) and one Side Imaging/Down Imaging frequency (455). That is what the 2009 and 2010 798 models have.

It seems lots of persons are getting confused about the two letters "HD" in the 2011 year models. It means nothing other than Humminbird is "marketing" their high resolution screens.

All Side Imaging units have/can have Down Imaging (DI) either factory loaded software or available via free software download for older units that don't have it.

There are no 798 models advertized with DI in the model number.

it is a wrong statement

navionic, explain why my statement is wrong as verified by Humminbird_Greg.

Do you know what DI is?

Got it at last. Muddle
DI  in the model name => 455kHz/800kHz
SI  in the model name =>  455 kHz
Everything seemed to be clear. However 998ń SI Combo => 455kHz/800kHz
as that is not correct it  ::)

navionic, the 898, 998, and 1198 SI units use 455 khz and 800 khz for Side Imaing and Down Imaging plus 83 khz and 200 khz for 2D sonar. Those units use the HDSI transducer.

The 798 SI uses 455 khz for Side Imaging and Down Imaging plus 83 khz and 200 khz for 2D sonar.

All of the new DI designated units use 200 khz for 2D sonar and 455 khz or 800 khz for Down Imaging.

That's understandable. You have not understood my question. Why the model is cheaper(788 ci HD DI), has a frequency of expensive model. Model is more expensive(798 ci HD  SI), it does not matter. Not logical

Think of the logic this way:
The full Si units like the 798ci HD Si, require more internal components in both the unit and the transducer.  More components = more expense.

The new Di units like the 788 ci HD Di, use fewer components inside of the unit and transducer and so cost less.

Yes, but opportunities due to the frequency of 800 kHz is much greater.
The picture will be more clearer.

Yes but to get the 800kHz in the 798 units would mean that we would have to add the components and circuitry to this unit which would drive the cost of it upward higher than it is now; which would mean a large price difference between it and the 788ci HD Di units you questioned.
