Just a little advice please
« on: February 12, 2013, 08:26:48 PM »
So, i posted a few pics on here the other day of my first snapshots taken. For the most part, i think my settings for the conditions worked out fairly well. However, as i continued to review the pics on my computer, i noticed on the left side of my side imaging screen, there are some light black lines on my image. I'm not sure if i need to readjust my ducer or not so, i figured i'd post one on here and see what you guys think.....I'm pretty sure my ducer is level as i made sure the boat was on a level surface ( i actually placed a level on my boat) and then put another level on the ducer before tightning everything down. I don't see any other blockages on the transom of the boat. Any suggestions? Thanks guys

You have established the the boat and transducer are level with each other.
Next time your on the water, place the level in the same place as before and see if it reads the same.
How your boat sits in the water or how it's loaded may change the transducer from being level.

Yeah, it may not sit in the water the way it does on the trailer.  I'd tilt down the port side a fuzz and see if it evens out or goes the other way.  Was it smooth water when you took these?

If you could post a picture of your transducer location it may help a little.  Do you have a deep V hull? Or is the ducer well above the bottom of the V on your hull?

If so, you are probably getting turbulence and air bubbles comming off the v and blocking some of the sonar signal.  I have a deep V and had this problem initially and had to go to a dual transducer setup.

well, my boat is not a deep v hull. It's actually just an old flat bottom aluminum boat. It's a triton Ambush, and the angle on the hull is not steep at all. I guess i'll give her a little twist, i kinda figured it was just an adjustment i needed to make. Thanks guys. hvychev77

hvychev77,
You do have at least a partial blockage of the Left Si sonar beam.  Zoom in on the screen snapshot you posted and look right next to the centerline and you will see it.  Try drifting with your boat to see if this line goes away or if the outer parts of the Left Si sonar beam show stronger or not.  It may be air bubbles flowing off the left side of the hull like Robert stated that is causing both.  A picture of your boat overall transom (from the same height as the transducer) and a few looking across the transom from left to right and right to left (again at transducer height) may show us where there is additional blockage or not.
