Reliability of these expensive toys!
« on: June 04, 2014, 11:32:25 PM »
I have had over 10 Humminbird models and units, But it seems that the side imaging units are always something going on with them. Not saying the technology is not helping my fishing, but I do not feel like I am getting the full benefit of all of the unit because it seems there is always an issue with some sort of problem to always be correcting?????

I think it's because there are so many models available, and new features keep popping up.
Writing new software to keep up must be extremely difficult.
I think one of Humminbird's biggest weaknesses is in their testing of the new software.  They want to get it out quickly to keep customers happy, but in doing so, I think they cut corners in the testing.
We just have to live with it, or switch brands (which they probably have some of the same issues), or build our own sonars.
