emailed HBird Support with this question, but no response (so far)...
The Link system comes with a 30' Ethernet extension cable, and I'm guessing that maybe it's the AS ECX 30E.
I've got an 18' boat, so I don't really need 30' of cable.
Will the AS EC 10E (10') Ethernet cable work with Link and an 898c SI ?

Fyi the cable that comes with the i pilot link is not the same as those iv seen available. it is a special cable with male on one end and female on the other. and to my knowledge only comes as a 30 ft. I have not seen it for purchase yet. and that sucks if you want to pre rig or rig another boat

I do not know what cable comes with the Minn Kota i-Pilot Link system but you should ask Minn Kota that. If it is the AS-ECX-30E cable than it is a true extension cable in that it has a male and a female connector on the ends. The AS-EX-XXE cables have two female connectors. Humminbird does not sell a shorter version of the AS-ECX-30E cable but you can check with Minn Kota and see if they do. Maybe even make the suggestion that they have a shorter version available.

Greg that AS-ECX-30E is probably the cable included with the link. It was not listed on the bird site the last time i looked for it. or i missed it. Thanks now I can order one.

TTF,
I just confirmed that the cable shipped with the i-Pilot Link is in fact the same part number (490389-1) that we use for the AS-ECX-30E cable. So it is the same cable and one of the AS-EC-XXE cables will not work in its place.

Greg on the bird site it is listed as a 760025-1 . What is the difference in the number you posted

Hmmmm, interesting...
Humminbird Support just sent me a reply saying that I could exchange the AS EC 10E for the Link extension cable.
Guess I'd better call them to confirm.

The 760025-1 number is the top assembly part number that contains the 490389-1 (AS-ECX-30E) cable, the instructions, packaging and labeling. You can’t order just the cable minus the packaging and all.

Update...
So, as expected, Greg is correct...
This is the follow-up response from Customer Service:
"You are correct, the AS EC 10E cables have two female connectors and will not work. The AS ECX 30E is the only extension cable."

Now if they only offered a thru hull connector for this proprietary cable. :'( or better yet, bluetooth 8)! We need to get "MinnKota_Fred" signed up to this forum!!
