I am a regular reader on this forum as of late and I have to say that I am totally confused what I should do for my units to work perfectly from a software perspective when i get to hit the water.
I have a new 898SI and 858 DI unit that I updated with the 6.50 software, out of excitement to have the latest version at the time...and now I believe I will have issues when I get on the water. So my questions are:
1) What version of software do I need to go back to in order to have both my units work properly?
2) Is that version good for both the 898SI and 858DI? Does software affect the SI and not the DI?

Software affects every aspect of your unit,
(Maps/GPS, 2D, SI, DI, Views, Depths, Scroll Speed, etc.).
Each unit usually has it's own unique software.
Just because the software says 6.50 for two
separate units, it does not mean that software from one
can be used on both units.
If you have not done so, register your two units
on the Humminbird Web site.
Call Humminbird customer service, and they may be
able to tell you what version of the software your unit(s)
shipped out with.
You can always play around with your units(s) off the water, and use
the simulator to see if they work OK.
They may both be fine.

I have installed the updates on both units and registered both of course. I still need to know if I need to go backwards in the "update" since I have the 6.5 version? IF so ....do I just go back one version earlier?

If I were going back I would only go 1 version to 6.49.
