Title: Help, another unit not reading updates
Post by: TFO on May 16, 2011, 08:10:29 PM
Okay hope some one can help. I have a 797C2 SI unit and I'm updating it for the first time. I have been to Humminbird site and downloaded the newest software. (590201-1_v5_450) I have turn on unit reset defaults and let unit upload fully. Not really in that order but have tried different ways. Then insert card and get nothing at all. I know my SD will read on unit because Hotmaps SD card works.

do you have any other units connected to the 797?
Is this on an interlink connect?

TFO,
You know that the Hotmaps card will read on your unit but have you used the SD memory card that you are trying to update your unit with successfully with your unit before?

What software version is on your 797c2 Si unit now?

What brand, model and size memory card are you trying to use to update your unit?

Try reformatting the SD card, if it is an SDHC type memory card (4GB or larger) be sure and use the proper reformatting software (http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3/ (http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3/) ).  Than download a new copy of the software update file and try it again.

You may have to try another memory card.  We recommend the SanDisk brand memory cards.

Now, before actually starting the software update: make sure you have a stable source of power as once the unit starts updating any power interruption could be catastrophic!  I would disconnect any accessories or cables other than power, transducer and GPS before making the update as well.

Brand new SanDisk 8 GB SD card. No other unit linked to this one. I have never did a upgrade to software. Thinking software is 3."" something off head. I will try reformatting card and reload software.
One other thing I don't have a transducer hooked up right now. Waiting for a new one to come in. Will this matter on uploading new software?

Thank you for the help. I also sent Humminbird Tech. an email and all they replied back with is insert card into a reader.

Thanks again and will let you know if reformatting work.

In software version 3.720 we added the ability for the 797 unit to recognize the (than new) SDHC card format.  If your 797 has software that is older than this than you will need to use an SD or MMC type memory card (2GB size or smaller) for this first update.  After it is installed you will be able to use your 8GB SDHC memory card for future software updates.  By the way, when you format an SDHC memory card you have to use the proper formatting software.  Here is a link to some:
