Transducer Not Connected?
« on: June 16, 2015, 05:54:03 PM »
Hello, and thanks for the forum. Great resource and interesting reading. I've recently purchased a used 898c. I was assured it was all working perfectly (we'll see) and I have just installed it on my boat (Whittley 580 Voyager). My problem at the moment is I have very little time before a trip north to Darwin (read- a long way from Adelaide!). I only have one chance- this coming weekend- to see if everything is working okay. All seems good (GPS is showing location fine) but when I turn it on the message "Transducer Not Connected" comes up. The transducer is, however, "clicking" away and there is a fuzzy colour image in normal sonar, which I used to get on my old unit when out of the water. Side imaging and down imaging are completely black, as I'd expect when out of the water.

My question is- should that message appear when out of the water- even if the transducer is connected? If not, why would it be showing some signs of being connected?

As mentioned, I'll be taking it out this weekend (three days away) but will have very little chance of doing anything if it is not working (I'm leaving for the trip five days later- working until then).

I am aware of the sometimes "iffy" electrical connections, I plan to get some electrical connector grease to improve things.
Cheers,
Mark

You might check the transducer setting to make sure it matches the transducer you have installed.

I'm not sure if I would use the grease on the transducer connection ..... it will attract dirt.

Apologies for the lack of reply here. I had planned to go out and trial the sounder a week before a three week trip. Unfortunately on the way to the ramp someone decided to turn into a service station from the middle lane... right in front of me! Result- front end badly dented, radiator, condenser and fan damaged. Holiday with boat cancelled! We eventually decided to fly to Queensland for our break, but the car isn't ready so I still haven't had chance to test the sounder.

Cheers,
Mark
