Okay searched all the posts and didn't see an answer for this. Third time I have used my 898c si and this did not happen the two previous times I took the boat out. Today whether I was running or not my 898c si would constantly shut down  after a minute or so when I had a split screen with the depth reading via 2d transducer and y cable and my navigation screen. My unit would also shut down and restart every time I pressed the zoom + button with the base map page. If I just had the birds eye only I had no issues - only when I had the base navigation page on.  I don't have the nvb package just the base maps. I have seen a couple of other forums where similar was posted but no answer. Have any of you seen this or heard it and if so does anyone know a fix. Concerned when I am running for the unit will just shut down and restart several times.

Thanks

Tom

Hi Tom,

I don't know if this will work for you or not, but it worked for me on both my 998c SI and 798c SI with a similar problem - mine was locking up and acting sporatically on certain screens until I did this with my units:

1)  I adjusted the power plug pins with a small screwdriver to make sure it's seated in the Humminbird unit with a solid connection.  If they're too straight, these problems would present themselves.

2)  Make sure any SD cards you have in the unit are blank or removed unless you need them.  I found with mine that if I had an SD in my unit, it make it act very strangely.  Once I backed them out or cleared them out, that my units ran much better.

Sorry I don't have a better answer for you.  Hope this helps.

Are you running the latest software update in your 898c Si unit Tom?
I believe that the latest software is version 5.410

  • It is not lost ...it has been misplaced.
  • Unit(s): (1) 1197 (1) 1198
  • Software: 6.6

Would all previous levels of software have this problem?
What fixes are in the latest release??
Does the latest fix specifically address this problem?

How do we know what is in the fixes completely?
Chuck

Thanks for the advice. I do have the latest software and I did have two sd cards in the unit and believe they both had information on them - I know at least one of the two did so will make sure they are blank or not in.

I saw the posts about bending the pins - will try that as well. Also ensure that my batteries are free of any corrosion and tight as well

Thanks again

Tom

OK so I took the SD Cards out and slightly bent the pins and tried it in my garage - I had no issues panning or zooming - I am assuming it worked the same it would have on the water. Thanks for the advice - will post if anything different happens

Thanks again

Tom

Glad that worked.  Hopefully this helps others with a similar problem.  I dealt with it for months before I figured out what was happening.  My only fee is that you have to share your super secret fishing spots with me!   :)
