Thisis my expeirence. i hooked the same units upto my interlink. You can use one puck (i didnt but you can) also u do have to get one chip for each you can not share topo screens. Aleast thats what i found out. thats why i got both mine with nvb.

ffmedic147 is right: one map card for each unit as the maps cannot be shared and you can use only one GPS Receiver.

If it were me though I would use the Ethernet connection between the 958 and 998 units and connect a GPS Receiver to each unit.  Although you can share the GPS Receiver between the units you should use the one connected to the unit and it should be mounted as close to the transducer that unit is using so that your waypoints will be more accurate.  Having the second GPS Receiver also gives you a backup in case one quits working in the middle of a fishing trip.  The Ethernet cable also costs less than the InterLink.

I will be switching mine to ethernet as soon as the units get back to me. I have no need for the interlink.
