BRAND NEW - 959DI Powers Off and wont stay powered....
« on: April 25, 2014, 11:13:48 PM »
I very recently purchased an 1199 SI Combo and a 959 DI. These units are the first experience with Humminbird, I have used Lowrance for 20+ years. Neither unit have left garage as of yet. 1199 is installed on boat and seems to be working absolutely fine, GPS, finds transducer, powers up and off etc. The 959 however is powering up only to power down after menu button is selected. Sometimes if I act quickly I can get menu up but prior to pushing any buttons it powers down. I have done all the obvious, checked voltage on power and found 12.15 volts continuous, brand new unit - so no bent broken pins or misaligned etc. I know it originally powered up as when unpacking I connected to power to see if it worked and it stayed on but I did not spend much time powered up as most of my attention was directed at 1199 unit for testing and learning. I also disconnected power from 1199 and plugged into 959 to find exact same issue. During power up cycle and booting unit tends to flash a line on lower third of screen unlike 1199. I have tried powering up with power cable only. I have tried powering with attached ethernet and transducer wiring to no avail. Not a great experience as a new Humminbird user. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated as there is some local tournaments in the coming days.

If you have a map card (or any SD Card) in the 959...try removing the card(s) and powering on the unit...

Rickie, Thank you for the suggestion, but this unit has no SD cards installed. I did purchase at Scheel's in Springfield, Illinois and have called fishing department manager and he has requested I return the 959 head unit today as it wont power up off a separate power source supplied by 1159. H's going to swap it out for a new in the box unit.
