GPS maps standard on 898c SI ?
« on: April 03, 2010, 06:44:03 PM »
Add for 898c SI says "Built in contour XD cartography from Navionics w/3000 lakes.  Where do I find mine? Just  got my new 898 and when I turn on GPS the lake looks as "high tech" as Mapquest does for directions. (bad) Thanks, Neil

Whose ad was this? The Humminbird website says "GPS Chartplotting with built-in ContourXD mapping". I haven't looked at much of the ContourXD map, but what I have seen does look like Mapquest. The Navionics maps are a separately purchased SD card that you load in one of the SD card slots. If you actually bought a unit that included the Navionics map card and you don't have it, talk to your retailer. If you buy one, check out the Navionics website first. The Humminbird site has a link. There are various versions, such as Premium and Platinum. Check the lake listings for each so you know if your favorite lakes are included.

Ron.

Ya, guess that was someone Else's add I saw because I can't find it again. The "built-in contour XD mapping" is nothing more then a 1D simple "mapquest" type map(unless I'm not opening it somehow). The Garmin in my truck shows the lake as good! Did order Navionics Hotmap Platinum South from anchorexpress.com. $171.99 and no tax. Cheapest I could find and shows every lake in Texas I could ever need. Hope it's all I expect and user friendly. Thanks for info. Neil

Well actually we purchased the CountourXD map from Navionics.  They also sell mapping data to other companies as well.  There is limited depth contour lines on these lakes but it is a step up from the UniMap lakes we had before as the base maps as they had no depth contour lines at all.

Be sure to update the software in your 898 before using that Platinum mapping card.
