Title: Transducer location
Post by: Catfish Capone on February 18, 2014, 04:56:25 PM
Hey guys, getting ready to install my new unit, 998c HD SI, looking for feedback on where I should mount my transducer.  I included a some photos of my transom.  Thanks!

My first choice would be to the left of the tie down strap, equal distance between the two strakes. (in photo 2)
At the current transducer location, I think the turbulence at the corner may create problems.
Wait for other feedback before you start drilling holes.

I would mount it in the center .At the current position, the motor will interfere with  side scan  :)

I agree with Newkid about the turbulence on the right side.

I'd move it to the left, about 1/2" from the right side of
the strap.  That way, the motor won't cause any turbulence.
I think it would be far enough away from the right strake.

With your motor down, in normal running position, as long as the
transducer has a clear line of sight to both sides of the boat,
then your SI should work just fine.

Go to the back of your boat and look at the line of where your transducer is installed.  If you can see anything physically blocking that line on dry land, then it will also be blocking the signals on the water.

Hey Catfish, you might want to throw a little paint on your
trailer, and a propeller on your motor.  Just sayin. :)
